General Introduction

The Media Production Department was established on Jan 26, 1994, originally named the Media – Washing & Drying Department. Initially, besides media production, it also handled equipment washing and water system planning for hemodialysis.

In 2018, to reflect its actual professional functions and development direction, it was officially renamed the Media Production Department.

Functions and Tasks

The Media Production Department is a specialized unit under the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals, responsible for producing media and solutions for vaccine production, testing, research, and biologicals at the Lò Đúc facility.

Specialized production

Producing media and solutions for polio vaccine and Rotavin-M1 vaccine production, testing, and other research/application purposes.

Water system quality management

Monitoring and ensuring water quality meets GMP production requirements.

Production planning and implementation

Developing production plans, preparing materials, and organizing validation and testing aligned with the Center's general plan.

Drafting and reviewing documents

  • Drafting, reviewing, and periodically updating media production procedures and related documents.
  • Preparing and managing specifications for raw materials, media, solutions, and equipment.
  • Strictly following documentation, reporting, and archiving protocols according to GMP regulations.

Asset, equipment, and human resource management

  • Responsible for managing all facilities, equipment, materials, chemicals, and personnel within the department.
  • Ensuring continuous, safe, and efficient operation of assigned equipment systems.
  • Full compliance with GMP documentation and production reporting procedures.

Human resource training and development

  • Organizing orientation for new employees.
  • Periodic training and GMP knowledge updates for all department staff.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Center Director.

Process improvement and outstanding results

  • Filtration system improvement: switching from disc filtration to housing filtration, enhancing production efficiency and sterile quality.
  • High-viscosity media process improvement: replacing heat sterilization with filtration sterilization, creating high-quality media batches.
  • Scientific research participation: Coordinating Center projects like Rota and IPV vaccine research...

During the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Successfully produced and registered high-quality hand sanitizer for the market.
  • Preparing and supplying virus transport media (VTM) for testing.
  • Inter-departmental production support: Assisting Bulk and Finished product departments in production as assigned.
