Dao Reu Breeding Farm
General Introduction
The Laboratory Animal Breeding Farm, commonly known as Monkey Island, under the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (POLYVAC), is located on Reu Island in Bai Tu Long Bay – an isolated area with a fresh environment favorable for breeding and researching laboratory animals.
Each year, the farm supplies approximately 300–350 mature, healthy monkeys for vaccine production, experimentation, and testing of vaccines and biologicals.
To enhance the monkey troop's quality and breeding conditions, the Center invested about 20 billion VND to renovate and build infrastructure meeting international clean breeding standards, ensuring biosafety and meeting testing and production requirements.
Functions and Tasks
Breeding, caring for, and managing laboratory monkeys for research, production, and testing; ensuring quality, health, and quarantine indices of lab animals according to health standards.
Coordinating with professional departments for preclinical trials, safety, and efficacy research; contributing to a stable, standardized animal source for long-term scientific and production activities.
